Alfred Eduard Schmidt (24/07/1902 Neumittelwalde, 21/09/1957) was a German naval officer, writer, translator, editor and teacher.

The Windhoek was in Angola at Lobito in 1939, when the war broke out, and the vapors Wagogo (3118 BRT, 1915) and Wameru (4076 BRT, 1920) who had found refuge there. In December 1939, the Windhoek left Lobito, barely disguised as a Japanese ship, for South America and arrived on December 7, 1939, in Las Palmas. The crossing was carried out despite allied research groups against Admiral Graf Spee in the Atlantic.
