The Windhoek was in Angola at Lobito in 1939, when the war broke out, and the vapors Wagogo (3118 BRT, 1915) and Wameru (4076 BRT, 1920) who had found refuge there. In December 1939, the Windhoek left Lobito, barely disguised as a Japanese ship, for South America and arrived on December 7, 1939, in Las Palmas. The crossing was carried out despite allied research groups against Admiral Graf Spee in the Atlantic. This episode is told in the book: Mit MR 12 uber den ozean die abenteuerliche heimfahrt der funf von der "Windhuk" von Lobito-bay nach Las Palmas. Alfred Eduard Schmidt Berlin, Steiniger-verlage [1940] ; Allemand ; Hardcover, illustrations, 207pp. He embarked on the Pamir as third officer in June 1956 and disappeared with the ship ( ![]() |

He then boarded the Passat at the age of 21 years. He continued his career in the merchant marine and now lives in Canada.
